Ever since the Kia Soul debuted, we’ve loved everything it offers save for the power. Kia is one of those vehicles that challenges conventional labelling. Is it an SUV, a wagon, or a hatchback? Although saying it’s a combination of those may turn out to be a mockery or failure, it really does a good job in trying to mix the three qualities into one stylish package.
There have been rumors making rounds purporting the new 2019 Kia Soul is on the way. In fact, our spy photographers managed to catch a glimpse of what is set to become the 2019 model. While a full report of the facelifts and redesigns it will undergo are still eons away, we managed to put together a rendering based off of rumors and spy photos.
Some of the key areas that are rumored to undergo quite some significant chunk of changes include the engine department and in terms of the driver assisting technologies. It is rumored that the new model will gain additional sound deafening materials to reduce noise. Also, the fuel economy ratings are set to be improved from the current 24 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway the standard model currently offers to around 28 mpg in combined rating.

Besides the aforementioned changes, the new model is also set to get improved driver-assisting technologies especially for the Soul Turbo model. The exterior and interior should carry over mostly unchanged save for some few subtle touchups in terms of material quality and technology.
Kia knows its intending audience is a younger one, so it will continue building up on the already offered smartphone connectivity functions, including Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. All in all, buyers of the new 2019 Kia Soul should expect to get an even better value proposition than what the current model offers.
Historically, the Kia Soul has been compared to other oddballs such as the Nissan Cube, and Scion xB, both of which made the most out of their funkier dimensions to appeal to young families looking for better interior space without breaking the bank. But the two were discontinued therefore leaving the Kia Soul in a class of one. Nonetheless, buyers have in the recent past shown interest in subcompact SUVs and could be considered as solid rivals.
Once it goes for sale, the 2019 Kia Soul should brace for some competition from the likes of Honda Civic, Honda HR-V, Mazda CX-3, and Chevrolet Cruze. Others that could give it a run for its money include the Mini Cooper Countryman, and Fiat 500X. In spite of the competition it has, the 2019 Kia Soul remains a tempting choice for anyone seeking a fun-to-drive and boldly styled hatchback that’s easy on the wallet as it is on the gas.

2019 Kia Soul Interior Facelifts & Redesigns
Since the Kia Soul is intended to appeal to younger buyers, the new model should be expected to impress in terms of the infotainment and convenience technologies it offers. More features should be offered with the Apple CarPlay and Android Auto infotainment system. Both systems are aimed at smartphone savvy buyers looking to access most functions and features via their mobile phones.
Besides the technologies, the new 2019 Kia Soul is also expected to continue offering a five-seating configuration. As things stand, the existing Soul provides ample space for all passengers thanks to its boxy shape. Ample space however doesn’t necessarily translate to seat comfort. The rear seats are a little firm and flat by comparison unlike the ones at the front, and this is one area that the 2019 Kia Soul should try to address.

Other changes the new model could have include reduced noise and vibration, better interior materials, and better customization features. But even so, the 2019 Kia Soul will still exceed expectations for the price it is offered for. There should be nothing to complain really.
Just like its predecessors, the new 2019 Kia Soul should still continue to be offered in three trim types – Base, Plus, and Exclaim. Some of the features offered with the Base model include 16-inch wheels, a tilt-and-telescopic steering wheel, Bluetooth wireless technology, a 6-way manually adjusting driver’s seat, and an updated audio system. Top of the range models get features such as a panoramic sunroof, lane-departure warning, blind-spot detection, leather seating, and Harman/Kardon system.
Engine Specs of the New Kia Soul 2019
We shouldn’t expect any significant changes when it comes to matters beneath the hood. The Soul Base model comes equipped with a 1.6L four-cylinder engine offering a meager 130 horsepower. The power is then taken up to the front wheels via the six-speed automatic transmission system. We really hope Kia will improve the responsiveness of the transmission system as it has been reported to be quite sluggish on existing models.
The 2019 Soul Plus should come equipped with a 2.0L four-cylinder engine capable of generating 161 hp. lastly, the top-of-the-range Soul Exclaim comes equipped with a 1.6L turbocharged engine capable of churning out 201 horsepower. Fuel economy ratings are not some of the best you get but aren’t that bad either. The standard 1.6L four-cylinder engine should return 24 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway.
2019 Kia Soul Release Date & Price
These details are still eons away from being announced. Nonetheless, we don’t expect any significant increments over what the existing model goes for sale for. The base model begins from an MSRP of $17,000.
Two of the most formidable rivals nipping its heels include the Honda HR-V and the Mazda CX-3. The HR-V SUV is an affordable contender in things class offering features such as a spacious and comfortable interior, excellent exterior visibility, better fuel economy figures, and clever cargo solutions. However, we’re not particularly fond of its sluggish acceleration, but overall it ticks most things right. Pricing for the HR-V starts from $21,105.
With pricing starting from $24,150, the CX-3 is stylish, easy-to-park, and fun-to-drive option in the compact crossover segment. Features it offers include impressive highway speeds, excellent fuel economy, attractive and high-quality interior, comfortable and supportive front seats, and sporty handling. It is an ideal crossover for anyone not prioritizing interior space.
